The Trojan War

Almost 3000 years ago, the Trojans and Greeks fought a long and terrible war. Why? Because the Trojans had captured a beautiful Greek princess Helen.
'Helen' did not mean to cause trouble - she was bewitched by the gods.
The Greeks fought a battle with Troy but could not get inside the tall strong walls around the city.

In the end the war lasted for TEN YEARS!

They tried everything but it began to look like the Greeks would not win the war.
Menelaus and Paris fight it out - 'man to man'.

So the Greeks thought that if they could not win the battle with their physical strength then they should win it with their brains. Odysseus thought of a smart trick.
The Greeks sneak in to Troy inside the wooden horse.

Well done everyone - what a fantastic show.

Greek Myths

We had a lot of fun learning about The Ancient Greeks in the Spring Term.

We heard the story of Pandora's Box which led to some exciting story-telling and some DT involving making boxes from balsa wood.

As part of our Fairgrounds Topic we looked at some of the work by the famous painter L.S. Lowry

All the children had a section of the picture to copy and when we stuck them all together it looked really good!

Have a look at some of detail close up.

We used chalk pastel in muted colours to capture the style of the artist.

Lowry is famous for his 'match-stick men'.
