Duxford trip

Swifts had a lovely day out on 8th March. We went to Duxford. Mr Kelly told us all about the Battle of Britain and showed us films, pictures and artefacts. He told  us all about Duxford's role in the war and we had a look at the operations room which showed you what it was like in the war years.

Year 5 STEM Day

Year 5 had fun at High School working on some science and technology activities.

How quickly will the plasticene fall to the bottom of the cylinder?
What effect does the shape of the plasticene have on the speed of the fall?

Mr Gladwin showed the children how to make rockets.

They were fired into the air using air pressure.

This group won the competition to see who could make the tallest and strongest tower using straws and sellotape.
Well done!

WWII Visitor

We were very lucky to have Mark Bailey visit us on Friday March 24th. He knows a lot about the war and has a huge collection of genuine WWII items. The children especially liked looking at and holding the guns! He told us all about D Day and how the US paratroopers got behind enemy lines. Mark had on the full US paratrooper uniform and even drives a WWII jeep!

Some of the children's parents helped to set up the 'camp' on the field - so thank-you to them. Other parents  came to have a look at Mark's collection - they found it very interesting  (if a little chilly!)

Parent Carousel

We invited our parents to come and take part in some activities all about food rationing in World War II.

We had to make ID cards so we could get a ration book. Then we had to think about which recipe to choose before working out what ingredients we would need and how much it would cost in pounds, shillings and pence. Once we had 'bought' our ingredients our parents helped us with the cooking. The food was delicious but it would be hard to make those rations last all week!

The chocolate pinwheels made with mashed potato were particularly delicious!

Sportshall Athletics UEA

 We went to the UEA to take part in the next round of of the South Norfolk Schools Partnership Athletics Competition.
We took part in track and field events and we did so well that we came FIRST!! That means we get to represent South Norfolk in the County games in June.
