States of Matter

We started off this Science topic by looking at the properties of GAS...
Does gas weigh anything? How could we find out?
First we weighed the bottle with fizzy water in.

We watched what happened when we put raisins in... the bubbles of carbon dioxide stuck to the rough surface of the raisin making it rise to the surface. When the bubbles popped and the gas escaped the raisin fell down again!
We kept releasing more and more gas until the water was quite flat - then we weighed it again (and took off the weight of the raisins so it was a fair test). The bottle of water was lighter.

Then we made carbon dioxide by mixing a solution of bicarbonate of soda with lemon juice. It made LOADS of bubbles and we managed to capture the gas inside the balloon.

This balloon got quite big... that's a lot of gas!
